After Bessie’s death in 1943, Walter devoted the rest of his life to the gardens his wife worked so hard to create, and proceeded to open his home to the public. Today Bellingrath is home to thousands of flowers and hosts events year-round, with the blooming of the azaleas being the most popular as the Mobile Azalea Trail Maids return to Bellingrath during that time.
